Wisconsin native and former “Dukes of Hazzard” star Tom Wopat isn’t the guest of honor at a Ripon fall festival anymore.
The chamber of commerce decided to disinvite Wopat from Septemberfest after the actor pleaded guilty in July to inappropriately touching two women.
Wopat starred as Luke Duke in the 1980s series and grew up in Lodi, outside Madison.
The Ripon Chamber of Commerce wanted Wopat to come to Septemberfest on Sept. 15 because of that local connection, said chamber executive director Jason Mansmith, but in light of Wopat’s legal troubles, the chamber stopped the process of booking him as a guest.
Tom Wopat pleaded guilty in July to two counts of annoying and accosting a person of the opposite sex and was sentenced to one-year probation. The women worked with Wopat in a musical called “42nd Street” in Massachusetts. He hadn’t signed a contract or been paid by the Ripon Chamber for the appearance yet, Mansmith said.
Tom planned on taking pictures with fans and signing autographs at the festival. Now, the big attraction at the festival will be a display from two Spring Green brothers who custom-build cars and count Jay Leno as a customer.
