Regular Characters

COOTER DAVENPORT (BEN JONES)
BORN: AUGUST 30, 1941 – FROM: TARBORO, NORTH CAROLINA

Town mechanic. Could fix any car under the sun regardless of he got paid or not. Had a reputation of being a little wild and crazy, but started to mellow out as he got older. Was often seen wearing a sleeveless beige shirt with jeans and baseball cap, all of which was usually covered in grease. Was seen driving various different trucks (Fords, Chevys, Dodges…you name it, he drove it). Had a couple of CB handles: Crazy Cooter, Sheepdog. Signature CB call: “Breaker one, breaker one, might be crazy but I ain’t dumb, Craaaazy Cooter coming at ya, any y’all Duke boys home on the Hazzard Net, come on…”

LULU HOGG (PEGGY REA)
BORN: MARCH 31, 1921 – DIED: FEB. 5, 2011 – FROM: TOLUCA LAKE, CALIFORNIA

Lulu was Boss Hogg’s wife and Rosco’s sister. She was seen sporadically in the first few seasons and then more often near the end of the run of the show. Like her husband she had a weakness for food, chocolate bon-bons mostly and her cooking went from being bad to good in the seven year run of the show. Her presense in Hazzard was defined by more than her physical size. Unlike Rosco and Boss, Lulu liked the Duke family, and she often took sides against her brother and husband when it came to the Dukes. Lulu wasn’t afraid to stand up to Boss…truth was, he was afraid to stand up to her!

EMMA TISDALE (NEDRA VOLZ)
BORN: JUNE 18, 1908 – DIED: JAN. 20, 2003 – FROM: MONTROSE, IOWA

Miz Tisdale was Hazzard’s Postmistress. But she was unlike any postmistress you’ve ever met! She was an older woman, but she didn’t let her age stop her for nothing. She delivered mail on a dirt bike and had quite an infatuation for Jesse Duke. But her duty was to the US Postal Service, whose rules and regulations she followed to a T. Take a number and show your ID please…even if you are the only one in the post office and she’s known you since you were a baby!

THE BALLADEER (WAYLON JENNINGS)
BORN: JUNE 15, 1937 – DIED: FEB. 13, 2002 – FROM: LITTLEFIELD, TEXAS

To help keep things straight, the viewer was assisted by country music legend Waylon Jennings. He also wrote the shows theme song “Good Ol’ Boys” which went to #1 on the country charts and in the top 20 on the pop charts. Although Jennings feelings towards his six years spent as the Dukes balladeer appear clouded, fans agree he is the only one they prefer as balladeer. Some of the shows most classic lines come from the Balladeer himself. “Y’all better not go to the refrigerator now.” and, “Aren’t you glad they’re the one’s driving it, and we just have to watch it?”

RECURRING CHARACTERS
HUGHIE HOGG (JEFF ALTMAN)

Boss Hogg’s young nephew, said to be as crooked — maybe even more crooked — as Boss himself. He drove a white VW Beetle with bull horns on the hood, similar to Boss Hogg’s Caddy. The character was first introduced in the episode “Uncle Boss”, produced early in the second season, but this episode was not broadcast until the third season (for unknown reasons), by which time, Hughie had already been seen as Temporary Sheriff in the second season episode “Arrest Jesse Duke”. Typically, Boss would call in Hughie once per season to come up with a particularly dastardly scheme to get rid of the Dukes, before Hughie would turn on Boss and out-smart him. Boss would end up throwing him out of Hazzard at the end of the episode (Despite this, Boss would always give Hughie “one last chance” on his next appearance, until Hughie’s final appearance in “When You Wish Upon A Hogg”).

WAYNE / NORRIS (ROGER TORREY)

One of Hughie’s loyal duo of henchman. Played by the same actor but with different names on different occasions.

FLOYD / BARCLAY (PAT STUDSTILL)

The other of Hughie’s duo of henchman. He and Norris were both bigger than Bo and Luke, but nonetheless struggled in fights against them. Again played by the same actor, but with different names on different occasions.

L.B. DAVENPORT (ERNIE LIVELY CREDITED AS ERNIE W. BROWN)

L.B. was Cooter’s cousin. He also filled for Cooter when he was away from the garage. L.B. first appeared in “Duke of Duke” and appeared in several other episodes. Ernie also played the parts of Dobro Doolan in the first episode ‘One Armed Bandits’, and he was a guard in season 6 ‘The Ransom of Hazzard County’.

MYRTLE / MABEL TILLINGHAM (LINDSAY BLOOM)

Mabel is Boss’s cousin who runs the Hazzard Phone Company, who often sneak listens to calls and lets Boss know what’s going on. Her name mysteriously changed from Myrtle to Mabel between the second and third season.

EMERY POTTER (CHARLIE DELL)

Emery Potter is the part-time Hazzard County registrar and chief teller of the Hazzard Bank. Emery is a soft-spoken man with a low tolerance for anything exciting. He is a friend of the Dukes, and sometimes falls under Boss’s crooked schemes simply because he is too timid to stand up for himself. He has also served as Temporary Deputy on occasion.

DR. “DOC” PETTICORD (PATRICK CRANSHAW)

Hazzard County’s long-serving physician.

DR. “DOC” APPLEBY (PARLEY BAER)

Elderly successor to Doc Petticord.
